Disposable nonwoven products that are compostable and/or biodegradable are continually being sought by nonwovens fabricators and consumers. A possible candidate under investigation as an environmentally friendly nonwoven fabric is one which can be formed from a cotton/cellulose acetate blend. Our studies have included an examination of fabrics formed by blending of the two staple fibers and thermal calendering the carded web. Aspects of this investigation and the implications associated with the fabric for use in the nonwovens market will be presented.
