Selective Absorbent of Ammonia with Biological Activity Odor Control of Disposable Diaper Products, 1996 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

An experimental approach was investigated to develop a bioactive system for the odor control of disposable diapers which retain large amount of urine for a long period. The main cause of the odor in the disposable diapers is the ammonia which is evolved by the activity of bio-disintegration of urea. The new system has the capability to absorb ammonia selectively and retain it for a long period of time. It has been proved experimentally that the large amount of ammonia evolved from concentrated ammonium hydroxide is absorbed by the system with an effectiveness of around 91%. In addition, this system also possess the anti-microbial activity that inhibit the growth of both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria associated with the disintegration of urea.
