Improved Filament Diameter Control Through the Use of Exponential Weighted Moving Average Technology, 1996 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

With rapid improvements in the accuracy, cost, and reliability of automatic dynamic machine control, and the low cost of computer systems, exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control strategies are quickly replacing the traditional Shewhart control methods. This paper discusses the differences in performance of the EWMA and Shewhart plans and illustrates the improvement seen in filament diameter control. Methodology for estimating the parameters of the EWMA model and correct interpretation of the model are discussed.
