Influence of Melt Spinning Speed on Properties of Filaments and Fabrics Produced in Spunbonding Processes, 1997 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

A study on the influence of melt spinning speed reached in a spunbonding process on properties of filaments and fabrics produced is presented. The range of spinning speed studied was from around 1,000 to 6,000 meters per minute for both polypropylene and polyester resins. The results indicate that not only will the finer and stronger filaments be obtained as the spinning speed in the process increases with throughput ( gram per hole per minute ) kept constant, the fabrics thus produced will have superior properties as well. It was found that a minimum spinning speed of 4,000 m/min is required to produce PET fabric without facing serious problem of shrinkage and stickiness during calendering. A comparison of properties of polypropylene subdenier fabrics produced at high filament velocity by Ason spunbond process with that of commercial SMS is also reported.
