My TAPPI Story: Eupidio Scopel
Using infrared energy to enhance the strength of low needlepunch density fabrics made from polyester bicomponent binder fibers is feasible. The effect of binder fiber percentage, basis weight, emitter temperature, and airflow through the fabric on tensile performance is evaluated at various levels of specific energy input. Subjective evaluation of the fabrics suggests that those with through-air- flow yield distinctly different fabric aesthetics.
