Processing Cotton and Cotton/Pulp Blends for Wet-Laid Nonwovens Using Novel Dispersion Technologies, 1998 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

A novel dispersion technology has been developed. It allows formation of wet-laid nonwovens from a 50/50 intimate blend of 14 mm cotton and 3 mm softwood pulp fibers. Fiber separation in the stock tank is achieved through the use of retention aids and associative thickeners. Strings, clumps and holes in the wet-laid structures, normally caused by (mechanical) entanglement, have been eliminated. Associative thickeners improve fiber suspension and stability of the entire dispersion system.
