Foam is a common problem encountered with waterborne resin systems. This is especially true for latex emulsion polymers. Foam is generated during both the production and application of these resin systems and can cause difficulties in production. The theoretical aspects of foam generation and stability are discussed. Foam control agent design and application are also covered. Laboratory evaluation techniques and case histories using foam control agents in latex polymer binder systems are presented.
