Higher demands of built up roofing on fiberglass mat and new ARMA regulations requiring greater tear resistance have increased pressure to develop chemically bonding systems with greater strengths and more flexibility. Combining properly designed thermoplastic emulsion polymers with Urea-formaldehyde resins can achieve these performance targets. Design of these binders must encompass not only end use performance requirements, but also satisfy processing needs due to the complexities involved with a glass mat operation.
