Richard Proulx, Sylvain Renaud--In the papermaking process, stability of the wet end can be achieved through efficient wet end chemistry and proper mass balance. White water consistency control can stabilize the wet end by reducing process variations. Controlling retention aid dosage to stabilize the white water consistency result in increase paper machine efficiency, stabilization of the wet end, better sheet formation and lower operating costs. White water consistency control is being implemented in many locations around the world and has proven to be efficient and beneficial. Many parameters must be considered when implementing white water consistency control. This paper explains the steps leading to white water control with practical examples on how the loop behaves during process variations. White water closed loop applications results will also be discussed.
