EtherNet/IP for Real-Time Control, 2001 Process Control, Electrical & Info. Conference Proceedings
Andreas Somogyi--EtherNet/IP is a multivendor technology supported by about 400 different industrial automation companies that produce interoperable devices. Rockwell Automation customer installations have shown that EtherNet/IP is able to cover very broad application space within several industries. As the support of these companies and installations evidences, the global acceptance of Ethernet-TCP/IP has made it a popular choice for end users who demand reliable control in a variety of diverse networking situations. In addition to the simple information transfer for which Ethernet is traditionally used, EtherNet/IP is now being used increasingly in real-time industrial networking applications. In these types of applications, EtherNet/IP offers:
-determinism (through the use of switched Ethernet, full duplex and 100 Mb Ethernet)
-an abundance of compatible, low-cost commercially available components
-high-data throughput performance rates
This presentation will discuss various applications in which EtherNet/IP has been shown to successfully meet the needs of rigorous industrial networking applications.
