Implementing batch digester control can be difficult in pulp mills that are running at maximum production. The challenge of today’s distributed control system (DCS) is to provide solutions to maximize production within current mill limitations and achieve quality targets. Such solutions are provided with the Batch Digester Technology Package described in this paper. Experience has shown that this control solution will (1) allocate the common resources efficiently; (2) plan the cooking schedule to achieve the desired production; (3) add functionality to the batch operations (i.e. fill, ramp, cook, and blow); (4) provide a user-friendly, multi-tiered way for the operator to interact with the process.
