50% of the 113 mills responding have been in operation over 40 years. Only four have been operating for less than ten years.
60% of the mills have between 1001 and 4000 active control loops, only 19 mills have over 4000.
Of these loops 38% of the mills have less than 25% pneumatic loops, 34% have between 26% - 50% pneumatic, 19% have between 51% -75% pneumatic loops and only 10% have over 76% pneumatic loops.
The age of electronics is apparently with us! -but not to the extent of having distributed control systems.
Only 5 of the mills surveyed have over 75% of their loops as part of a distributed control system, the majority - 53% - have less than 25% of their loops involved. Perhaps that is why there is so much interest in the Millwide Controls Committee!
