Real-Time, Model-Based Evaporator Expert System, 1992 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
This paper describes combining a multi-effect evaporator computer model and an expert system to assist in evaporator operation and trouble shooting. Existing modular simulation software augmented with heat transfer coefficient prediction provides the computer model. A mill-wide information system furnishes necessary process data. An expert system software program coordinates retrieval of data from the process simulator and mill data base, interprets the information, and makes recommendations for optimum operation.
A dynamic graphics package arranges the data on-screen in an intuitive fashion allowing operators easy use of expert system information. The program resides in a windows environment making it relatively simple to customize and re-configure based on changes that occur in the mill.
Upsets such as low capacity, tube leaks, etc. are detected based on statistically determined process limits. Then, recommendations for corrective action are offered by the expert system.
