Quality Management - A Stepping Stone to CIM, 1993 Process Control, Electrical & Information Conference Proceedings

Steven E. Kallos, P.E., M.(Chem.) Eng.

Thomas R. Gilson M.S.(Chem. Eng.)

This paper discusses how Quality Management can be a good first step towards CIM. Quality Management projects can and do pay for themselves: however, estimates of project cost, and more importantly, estimates of people- power requirements must be made much higher than previously thought. As a basis for the Information requirements for the CIM/Quality Management project, a rugged and cost-effective Process Data System must be implemented. UN/X, Open Systems, and other standardization issues are discussed, and Industry Trends are pointed out.
