Natural Language Programming - and State Logic Control, 1996 Process Control, Electrical & Info. Conference Proceedings
This paper discusses a powerful technique for utilizing the rapidly increasing computing power available in programmable controllers, process controllers and industrial computers. Natural Language Programming is a technique embedded in software that allows users to program a computer or PLC in a language native to the programmer, users, industry and/or environment rather than a computer language. When coupled with the inherent advantages of State Logic control methodology, programming is accomplished by simply writing a specification of how the controlled system should behave. This paper demonstrates Natural Language Programming techniques and applications for developing control programs, on-line diagnostic routines and process simulation programs. A comparison of available higher-level PLC program languages will be made and the advantages of Natural Language Programming will be discussed.
