Application and Test Criteria for Medium Voltage Arc Resistant Switchgear, 1997 Process Control, Electrical & Info. Conference Proceedings
This paper reviews the traditional metalclad switchgear concepts and outlines the reasons for the development of arc resistant switchgear. The paper discusses the history of arc resistant switchgear in Europe and explains the events which took place in Canada in the development of the EEMAC G14-1, 1987 arc resistant test procedure. Design levels for arc resistant switchgear and the evaluation criteria of a successful test is described in detail. Fault levels are discussed along with construction details and typical dimensions for the application of arc resistant switchgear in today’s switchgear market.
