Implementation of Deadband Reset Scheduling for the Elimination of Stick-Slip Cycling in Control Valves, 1997 Process Control, Electrical & Info. Conference Proceedings
Technology. Valve Performance. Valve Solutions. To provide a better understanding of a common control problem, sometimes referred to as stick-slip, integral, or resolution cycling. Background information will be presented to define the extent of the problem and how the steady state oscillation impact control system operation and process variability. Valve bench test procedures and their results are presented as a potential guide to determine if a control valve assembly will cause stick-slip cycling when installed in a loop. A number of field tests are then presented to assist in identifying the equipment and control problems that case stick-slip cycling. Special PID control algorithms are given that have proven to eliminate the problem when it is impractical to modify the control valve assembly.
