Graphic Style Guides for Effective Mill Operations, 1998 Process Control, Electrical and Information Conference
Effective mill operations depend on valid information being presented to those who can evaluate, decide, and take action in a real time environment. The desire for “single window” operations has many perceived benefits but still lacks a well thought out implementation. Corporate knowledge management efforts are wasted without effective deployment to support real-time decisions. This paper discusses the criteria to create graphic style guides that act as a virtual overlay to control and information systems and offers an evolution to the human-machine interface challenge. An example of such a graphic style guide is presented which can be immediately adopted for use on new and existing systems.
