Gel Defects in LDPE Film- Resolving Polymer and Process Effects, 2002 PLACE Conference Proceedings

High-resolution image processing of gel defects in low-density polyethylene films provides some unique opportunities to screen gels indigenous to the resin from those introduced by the extruder. Qualitative aspects of the technology allow the rapid recognition of extruder contributed gel defects related to grade transitions, profile adjustments and resin stability. Application of these tools can be used to verify extruder readiness for resin quality control testing as well as down stream processing.
