Recent Advancements in Testing Protocols for FDA Compliant EB Coatings and Adhesives, 2002 PLACE Conference Proceedings

Comprehensive testing protocols have been developed to better determine FDA compliance of EB curable coatings and adhesives for food packaging applications. Various analytical instruments were compared and evaluated for their suitability for the range of components used in EB/UV chemistry. Individual ingredients and formulations were tested to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of different instruments. Effects of processing variables (e.g., coat weight, curing voltage, curing dosage) on the amount of extractables were also demonstrated.
