Effect of Extrusion Coating Parameters on Activation of a Primed 58 Film, 2002 PLACE Conference Proceedings
In the flexible plastics converting industry, primed films are commonly extrusion coated or laminated with
polyethylene or ethylene copolymers. To achieve sufficient adhesion to a primed film, the converter must insure the
process parameters meet certain criteria. These criteria include the following extrusion variables:
Melt temperature
Coating thickness
Air-gap
Die/nip offset
Acid content of the extrudate
In this paper, we use pilot-line studies to examine the effects of these parameters on adhesion to a film primed with a
water-borne extrusion primer.
