A Novel Seal-Peel System, 2004 PLACE Conference
Flexible packaging design engineers can choose from a variety of different technologies to make a package
peelable. This paper focuses on a novel cohesive peel system, which unlike conventional peelable systems
provides consistent peel strength independent of sealing conditions. The system separates the seal and peel
functionalities into two distinct co-extruded layers. The surface layer is weld sealed to a mating material and a
buried peelable layer cohesively splits. The peel is clean and particulate free, and offers many advantages to
both the converter and end-user.
