Polyvinylidene Fluoride Based Polymer Process Aids, their Evaluation and Conditioning Procedures, 2004 PLACE Conference

PressWeb.jpg

Fluoropolymers are an effective aid in the extrusion of polyolefins, particularly in blown films. This paper will focus on a specific family of fluoropolymers, namely PVDF and VF2/HFP copolymers, and a simple laboratory method for testing polymer process aids (PPA) in production formulations.

A key metric for the evaluation of process aids has been the minimum PPA required to quickly reduce melt fracture. An alternative conditioning procedure will be proposed that offers quick start-up and reduced changeover time for polyolefin processing.
