Anticounterfeiting for Converters and Suppliers, 2004 PLACE Conference
Counterfeiting has long been a problem for a variety of industries and governments. Advances in imaging
technologies and a trend towards a more global economy are just two factors which make the counterfeiting of
goods easier. Corporate liability, protection of brand identity, and counterfeiting links to terrorism contribute to
brand owners' increasing vigilance in battling counterfeits. While there are many technologies employed in
anticounterfeiting, the application of these technologies may take place at the converter, supplier, or even within raw
materials themselves. Following is a discussion of counterfeiting, anticounterfeiting measures, and opportunities for
suppliers and converters to offer a “value add” for their customers.
