Clarified polypropylene random copolymers are used for polypropylene applications, which require good clarity. Many of these clear applications require more toughness and impact at low temperatures than is available with random polypropylene copolymer by itself. The styrenic block copolymers (SBC) are good impact modifiers for polypropylene. In addition to impact, the styrenic block copolymers can achieve good clarity in polypropylene random copolymers by choosing the appropriate block copolymers. Extending these concepts to very high loadings of the styrenic block copolymer in random polypropylene copolymers results in flexible and very clear blends with only 8% haze in 2mm thick injection molded plaques.
