The paper compares barrier properties of the most important traditional high barrier resins like EVOH, Nylon, PVdC with more recent additions to the barrier offering like PGA (polyglycolic acid), COCs (cyclic polyolefins), MXD6 aromatic polyamide and different types of polyesters including PET, PEN and LCPs. The paper also covers the effect of processing conditions, the resin chemistry and the "final package" conditions on the barrier properties. It also presents some technologies being used in rigid packaging for possible extension to flexible structures.
