1.1 TWO STAGE TREATING - Modern processes for the manufacture of LPM prepregs normally involve two stage impregnation in order to reduce cost and improve surface finish, the resin used in the first stage is normally a low cost urea formaldehyde (UP) or melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF), which impregnates the paper. This resin is partially dried and cured in “float on air” ovens. The second stage coats the impregnated paper with a melamine formaldehyde (MF) resin, which is again dried and partially cured in the second stage oven.
