Ultraviolet Cure Powder Coatings, 1998 Plastic Laminates Symposium Proceedings

UV cure powder coating is the newest powder coating technology. It combines the many advantages of powder coating with the very fast cure of UV chemistry. It gives powder coatings true low cure capability. UV cure powder coating opens the use of powder coating on temperature sensitive substrates such as engineered woods, sensitive metal alloys, and plastics. UV cure powder coatings also provide energy, cost, and time savings when used on traditional metal substrates. This paper will briefly explain the traditional thermoset powder coating process, illustrate specific end uses and advantages of UV cure powder coating, and discuss future directions this technology now permits such as using powder coating to coat surfaces and edges of particleboard and medium density fiberboard.
