Laminate Flooring Today and In The Future, 1998 Plastic Laminates Symposium Proceedings

It has been now 20 years ago that the first laminate flooring was invented in Sweden, and today it has developed into a new category of flooring material used around the world. About 75 companies are involved in manufacturing laminate flooring with a capacity of 200-250 million m 2 . At the first glance, the laminate flooring concept looks very simple but on its way from raw material to finished installation it is a complicated process, with high quality demand for each step. Laminate flooring has a great potential, but the increased market shares can only be achieved by continuous quality improvements and innovations. Few manufacturers have flooring background and are not aware that mistakes can jeopardize the image for this new flooring category. I would like to discuss the opportunities and threats for laminate flooring.
