Agile Manufacturing and its Implications for the Choice of Machinery and Process Controls, 2000 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Jürgen Poesche, D.Sc.--This paper will deal with issues relating to the introduction of agile manufacturing practices into the paper and board industries. Agile manufacturing may be a potential solution for the poor financial performance of the paper and board industries in the last decade. The adoption of agile manufacturing requires an overall analysis of the entire value chain of the paper and/or board operation, and a more knowledge-based approach to management throughout the entire value chain and all organizational layers. The paper looks at the paper machine operations and systems, and the capital budgeting process to identify opportunities and critical issues in the introduction of agile manufacturing practices.
