Dryer Section Passivation: A Novel and Effective Method of Preventing Dryer Section Deposition and Linting, 2000 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Thord Hassler, Hiroshi Sekiya --Deposition and linting in the dryer section of a paper machine are significant problems for papermakers. While the causes of deposition and linting in this part of the papermaking process are many, major trends in papermaking have increased these problems. A number of conventional control methods exist, however, none of them are able to eliminate deposition and linting. A new method that addresses deposition and linting in the dryer section employs a continuous application of chemical additives directly onto dryer cylinders and dryer fabrics. This technology, which is marketed as Zenix Dryer Section Passivation by Hercules Incorporated, reduces the roughness of the treated surface and establishes a protective coating that prevents deposit buildup and linting. In addition to reducing deposition and linting in the dryer section, this new technology enables mills to make process changes so they can dry their paper more effectively. Combining this method of control with other methods applied in the wet end provides an effective program for total machine deposition control and lint prevention.
