Reducing Variation Through Improved Thick Stock Mixing, 2000 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

Bryan Reed, Thomas Taylor --The design of the thick stock injection into the silo white water and headbox fan pump suction is critical to paper machine performance. Machine supplier recommendations for thick stock injection configurations coupled with high paper machine production rates and decreasing headbox consistency create large piping systems. Designing these large piping systems into existing facilities with limited space creates potential compromises in complying with the design specifications that may effect paper quality variability. A new innovative improvement to a thick stock injection configuration is presented with results of reducing the conditioned weight variation in the 10 to 40 second period range by approximately 30 percent.
