Application of Debonding Agents in Tissue Manufacturing, 2000 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Jin Liu, Jeffery Hsieh--Due to the importance of tissue products in our daily life and the vast consumer market, various technologies have been applied in the tissue manufacturing. Chemical additives have been used to make tissue with unique properties. The application of debonding agents has been shown to be an effective method to improve the softness of tissue product. Commonly used debonding agents are reviewed in the paper. Addition of polyhydroxy compound can overcome the loss of tissue water absorbency caused by the traditional debonding agent addition, and the mechanism of the hydroxy compound adsorption on cellulose fiber is given. To be useful when wet, the tissue product must retain enough wet strength. Therefore in the manufacturing process, the wet strength resin is usually added. The mechanism of the strength development by the polyamide epichlorohydrin resin is discussed. The Langmuir adsorption for the wet strength resin and debonder on paper surface is assumed, and the guidance to the chemical applications is provided.
