Papermill Communication, 2000 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

J. Steen--This presentation will be focusing on forms of written communication within a papermill that will improve plant operations. The flow of information within a mill must be handled property so that all employees will have access to present and future plans. The information should flow freely between departments at all levels, from mill management to the hourly work force. Communication must also take place from the hourly employees upward to management. I will demonstrate how breakdowns in communication can affect plant efficiency, using my personal experiences as examples. In a production atmosphere, only a small amount of verbal communication is remembered. The forms of communication and their impact on the operation will be discussed. Some time will be spent going over how to make communication work.
