Effect of Pulp Quality Variations on Tissue Product Properties, 2000 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Jin Liu, Jeffery Hsieh--The most important control of paper product property is the control of the quality of the feed to the paper machine pulp. It has long been known that unstable pulp quality will result in many difficulties, such as the tissue machine operation problems and the products that are out of spec. An extensive study has been done to investigate the effect of pulp quality changes on various tissue product properties. The pulp quality monitoring was done on different lots of hardwood and softwood pulp from different pulp producers. The within-a-lot and between-a-lot pulp quality changes are studied. By using the best subset regression technique, the data of pulp qualities, such as breaking length, bulk and freeness, and the data of tissue machine operation have been correlated with the tissue product properties. The result shows that the pulp quality changes contribute heavily to the tissue product properties.
