Automating the Britt Jar RPM Scan Measurement, 2001 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

A. Gupta, W. E. Scott--A semi-automated version of the Britt Jar has been developed that enables the investigator to evaluate the shear resistance of aggregated papermaking stock in a single experimental run. The new apparatus consists of a Britt Jar, filtrate pump, flow-through turbidity meter, and a control computer. Data is presented that demonstrates how the apparatus can distinguish between flocculated and coagulated furnishes. Potential practical applications are suggested.
