Field Experience of Concept IV-MH Headbox with Consistency Profiling System, 2001 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

Masatoshi Kaku--Oji Paper Co., Ltd. Kasugai Mill is located on Kasugai-shi close to Nagoyashi which is the geographical center of JAPAN and started up producing fine paper in 1952. The mill now produces coated paper, kraft paper, groundwood paper as well as fine paper.

Recently, increase in the demand for higher printing quality and higher production has required the papermakers to improve the basis weight profile which affects the uniformity of the finished roll surface. In order to satisfy this need, a headbox with a consistency profiling system manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. was installed to our PM6 in January 1996. This was the first installation of a consistency profiling system in Japan. The field experiences including the issues and their settlements are discussed in this paper.
