Overcoming Interferences and Problems with Additives for Size Press Coated Papers, 2001 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Optimum performance of size press coated papers depends not only on the equipment and processes used but also on the effective use of surface additives as well as additives used in the base sheet. Knowledge of physiochemical interactions of additives than can affect the internal and surface properties of papers can guide decisions about managing both additives and processes. Effects of additives such as defoamers, biocides, specialty starches, and synthetic surface sizes will be reviewed and explored.
