Understanding Drainage/Retention in Papermaking Using the G/W System and its Analysis, 1990 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

J. M. Gess--A description of the G/W drainage/retention (1) system and what it can do is presented. The G/W system is significantly more sensitive than a paper machine to fines (2). Thus the data from a G/W system can see the beginning of a problem before it becomes apparent on a paper machine. As a result, it is now possible to develop a “feed-forward” type monitoring system based on the principles of the G/W system.
