Measuring Sheet Temperatures in the Press Section, 1991 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
A recent TAPPI survey of press loading, sheet dryness, and sheet temperatures shoved that 60% of the respondents were unable to report sheet temperatures at the last press. This is unfortunate due to the importance of temperature to water removal. Each 2 degrees Celsius (4 degrees Fahrenheit) is equivalent to 1% of the dryer steam load. Temperature can also have a significant effect on sheet consolidation.
Infrared pyrometers are the most convenient method for measuring temperatures. Accuracy is adequate providing normal precautions are taken. Data can be entered onto circle diagrams for easiest comprehension. Carefully designed tables can also assist analysis.
