Recycled Fiber and Cationic Starch: Maximizing Resources, 1991 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Recycling continues to play a major role in reshaping the global economy. With increased demands for more specialized grades of paper and board, the less than desirable impact of recycled fiber on quality is becoming more apparent. Environmental concerns, fiber quality, recovery rates, and minimizing strength losses associated with recycled fibers are of paramount importance to the growth in this area.
Research and development efforts are continuing in natural polymer based dry strength additives. Coupled with innovative application technology, these starch products provide improved dry strength and productivity in various grades of paper and board containing up to 100% recycled fibers.
This paper will discuss these starch products and show the positive impact which they have on quality and profitability in furnishes which contain recycled fibers.
