Alkaline Sizing - Panel Discussion, 1991 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Although alkaline papermaking has been talked about extensively in North America for the past decade, the last three years have brought a dramatic increase in the number of conversions taking place. The vast amount of technical exchange and preparation within the industry has gone a long way to providing the impetus for change to alkaline conversion; however, nothing can replace the practical experience gained from an actual conversion.
This panel discussion will draw on the experience of key personnel involved with alkaline conversions at their respective mills. Some of the topics for discussion will include the execution of the alkaline conversion, wet-end chemistry and mechanical considerations, issues, paper quality application approaches, and converting issues. Most importantly you will have the opportunity to learn how these issues were addressed and hear that these mills are now producing quality paper for their end users.
