Pulper Considerations for Waste Paper Operation, 1992 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

Converting an existing pulper or augmenting fiber supply with reclaimed paper capacity requires an understanding of the differences between the virgin and waste paper repulping process. Although in many areas the distinctions are minor, significant changes in operating philosophy are generally necessary.

The main areas of interest when considering the differences between waste and virgin repulping are mode of operation (batch or continuous); contaminant removal; rotor design; and operating parameters - temperature, consistency, pH and chemical addition. Each of these considerations and their impact on the performance of a reclaimed paper pulping system will be discussed in detail.
