Chemical Additives for Improved Compression Strength of Unbleached Board, 1992 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
The effectiveness of a chemical additive can be highly dependent on the environment in which it is used. When chemical strength additives are used in unbleached papermaking systems, their efficiency is reduced by the extraneous materials encountered there. This paper describes the unbleached papermaking environment, the nature of interactions between chemical strength additives and the unbleached papermaking environment, and the effect of that environment on the performance of various chemical strength additives.
