Water Management for the Multi-Layer Machine, 1993 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
R. J. Woodcroft
The multi-layer machine uses the same water management techniques for forming and draining water from breast roll to couch, as the single-wire machine. Because these machines produce different grades of paper that are joined together to make the final product, they have unique requirements. This paper will summarize the important points of good water management, describe the design and use of suitable equipment and focus on the special needs of multi-layer machines. Recycled furnish has become a significant factor in paper production and the variation in fibre quality is a major concern in the choice of drainage equipment.
