The use of reduced alkalinity, low temperature or shortened paper machine boil out programs may require the use of additional biocide to reduce bio populations and render cleaned surfaces less prone to refoul. Two quaternary ammonium chloride compounds are presented as effective control agents. Laboratory and mill test procedures as well as biological data are discussed.
