As key employees retire or change jobs, much of their process experience leaves with them. A knowledge management strategy enables companies to retain valuable process knowledge, even as the work force turns over. Once a company considers its process knowledge to be an important asset, it can begin to efficiently store and retrieve this information so that it can be utilized by the work force. There are a variety of software programs currently in use by papermakers and suppliers which facilitate the knowledge management process. This paper explains the process, the tools available, and the results which have been obtained.
