Boise Cascade, DeRidder, LA operates an 8.1 meter wide linerboard machine making 125-360 g/m2 tow ply linerboard at speeds up to 800 m/min.. Furnish is Southern Kraft with up to 10 % recycled content. The mill recently installed a top wire former on the base ply in order to improve sheet quality and increase production. This is the first application of this type of former on linerboard in North America. The installation and start up will be described along with practical experience from the first six months of operation. Improvements in sheet quality, production efficiency, and dewatering capacity will be presented in detail.
