Inkjet print quality for trial papers produced at Western Michigan University with different surface treatments was determined. The evaluations ranked the attributes of ink dry time rate, black optical density, black wicking, and color-to-color bleed. The base sheet contained 1.5kg/mton of AKD and 16% of a scalenohedral pcc. The size press formulation used an 8% ethlylated starch. The three surface sizes investigated were an ammonium slat ester of an SMA,. A straight ammonium salt SMA, and polyurethane. A current ink jet printer using a dye based ink was used to evaluate print quality.
