In the paper industry, the importance of accurate and relevant feedback from the paper product end users is becoming more and more essential to insure quality and cost effective products. Beloit, a world wide manufacturer of paper machinery, recognizing the importance of accurate information exchange between the end user of the paper product, has a continuing program of participation in these end user studies. One such study with a major printer, necessitated the monitoring and the evaluation of over 250,000 rolls from 24 paper mills, covering eight different paper grades. This effort has led to the definition of over 85 different defects and their causes.
